How billing actually works
Clear, honest information about how you're charged, when renewals happen, and what to expect on your bank statement.
Effective: 1 May 2026
Payment processor
All payments are processed by Paddle (paddle.com). Paddle is our merchant of record, meaning they handle the full transaction including tax collection and compliance. YourHandyBook never directly processes or stores your payment card information.
On your bank or card statement, the charge appears as PADDLE.NET* YOURHAND or similar.
Renewal schedule
Activation code system
Every paid subscription generates a unique single-use activation code, sent to your registered email address. This code:
- ✓ Is generated automatically within 60 seconds of payment
- ✓ Is tied to your specific email address
- ✓ Activates your plan instantly when entered in Upgrade → Redeem
- ℹ Expires after 72 hours if unused — contact support for a replacement
- ✗ Cannot be transferred, resold, or used on a different account
Receipts & invoices
For every charge, Paddle sends a receipt to your registered email. Receipts include: amount, UK VAT (20%) breakdown, Paddle order reference, billing period, and Paddle's business address (required for VAT compliance).
These receipts are valid for UK business expense claims.
Currency & VAT
Listed prices are in GBP. Paddle may offer local-currency checkout depending on your region. UK VAT (20%) is added at checkout — collected and remitted by Paddle on our behalf. VAT-registered businesses can enter their VAT number at checkout to reverse-charge VAT.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails:
- Paddle automatically retries after 3 days
- You receive an email asking you to update your payment details
- After 3 failed attempts over 10 days, your plan downgrades to Free
- Your data is not deleted — you can resubscribe at any time
